Advanced Wound Care Changed Jim Pauls' Life

Several times a week, Jim Pauls and his wife Layla hop in the car and make the hour drive to Beaver Dam Community Hospital for a visit to the Advanced Wound Center.

Jim has suffered through a series of health issues over the past few years, and when he began suffering from Soft Tissue Radionecrosis after receiving radiation treatment for cancer, his Urologist recommended he try Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.

“He told me to go to the BDCH Advanced Wound Center, that’s the place you need to go,” Jim said. “He had heard good things about the work being done there and thought it would help me. I felt like I had nothing to lose; I didn’t want to deal with blood clots all the time during the time I have left to live.”

Jim met Advanced Wound Center Medical Director Dr. Lori Lee and Hyperbaric Oxygen Technician Jamie Roen, who oversaw and guided his treatment with the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy chamber. After just a few weeks, Jim began to see results as his clotting lessened and other health issues improved.

“In addition to less bleeding, an unrelated food injury began healing and my fibromyalgia was noticeably improved,” Jim said. “There’s always optimism and anticipation when you start something new, but I’ve been very impressed with the program and for the first time in a long time I have confidence that I’ll get over my health issues.”

While his Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy treatments were pleasant and something he looked forward, Jim reserved his highest praise for Jamie and Dr. Lee.

“Jamie is one of the most personable people I’ve ever met and she’s always concerned for my wellbeing and cares for me like I’m the only person in the hospital,” Jim said. “Jamie and Dr. Lee are both incredibly knowledgeable and always have smiles on their faces. I can’t say enough about the staff.

“It’s a long drive, but I look forward to coming. I’ll honestly miss them when my treatment is over.”
