“My goal is to help patients understand the cause of their back and neck problems and find the right method to help them overcome their pain."

Dr. Todd Fairchild, board-certified spine surgeon, helps patients with spine disorders like disc herniation, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and compression fractures.

Pursuing a career in medicine allowed Fairchild to apply his interest in helping others with the process of troubleshooting and fixing problems with his hands.

Even with many technological advances, spine surgery still holds substantial risk and complications. Fairchild approaches surgery as a last resort. As an orthopedic spine surgeon, he and his team works with patients to identify underlying issues, goals and lifestyle and then outlines conservative measures to address their needs.

If all non-operative treatments were not successful and surgery becomes the best option, Fairchild evaluates the risks and benefits of surgery with his patients. “I am transparent and always available to discuss how we are going to tackle the problems together," Fairchild said. He uses the most modern techniques and instrumentation, including minimally invasive procedures.

Fairchild has lived and practiced spinal surgery in central Wisconsin for more 10 years. “Working in smaller communities where I get the honor and privilege to treat and become friends with generations of families is really the highlight of my career," he said.

Fairchild earned his medical degree from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Iowa, followed by a fellowship at Twin Cities Spine Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, a nationally recognized center of excellence in spine surgery.

Outside of work, Fairchild enjoys reading science fiction, Sudoku puzzles and working on small construction projects. He and his wife have three sons. They enjoy spending time together, working on their farm and watching sports.
