“I’m passionate about being a patient advocate. I don’t want to just heal my patients, I want to have a positive impact on their lives.”

Matthew Doering, M.D, offers patients 30 years of general surgery experience and focuses his surgical practice on issues such as symptomatic gallstone disease, hernias and appendectomies. Much of his time is spent in the Advanced Wound Center providing treatment of acute and chronic wounds, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

“I became inspired to become a physician by a doctor who cared for my family while I was in high school,” Dr. Doering said. “His compassion and caring attitude had a profound impact upon me. He displayed tremendous empathy, and that’s a trait I’ve worked diligently to hone over the years as I care for my own patients.”

In addition to overseeing the state-of-the-art hyperbaric oxygen therapy program, Dr. Doering cares for chronic wounds like diabetic foot ulcers, arterial ulcers, venous ulcers, pressure ulcers and radiation wounds.

“With each of my patients I strive to build a trusting relationship and develop a precise understanding of their medical diagnosis and what they’re going through,” Dr. Doering said. “I grew up in Madison, and my mother attended Wayland Academy just a few blocks away from the hospital, so practicing in Beaver Dam feels like home.”

Dr. Doering earned his Bachelor of Arts in Zoology and received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison before completing his general surgery residency at St. Louis University Hospitals.

In his spare time, Dr. Doering enjoys hiking, backpacking, canoeing, snowshoeing and camping with his wife, and has a long-term practice of mindfulness meditation.
