“I believe the most important elements of providing patient care include empathy and respect, as well as providing clear information that helps patients make their own decisions.”

Dr. Christina Friedl is a psychiatrist who provides clinical evaluation and treatment for a variety of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and more. She primarily cares for those 18 years and older.

“Getting into medicine was a way for me to help my community while pursuing my interest in science,” Dr. Friedl said. “I started focusing on psychiatry during my medical school rotation because of the personalized and holistic approach to addressing the social determinants of health and the integrated way it could serve our patients.”

Establishing trusting and collaborative doctor-patient relationships that encourage growth and development is the most rewarding aspect of Dr. Friedl’s practice. She also values Marshfield Clinic Health System’s commitment to the community along with the teamwork shown among providers, nurses and medical assistants.

“Interacting with patients, getting to know them over the years and watching their progress is something I really enjoy,” Dr. Friedl said. “It’s my hope that my patients feel like I always listen, like they’re cared for empathetically and that we collaborate on their treatment goals.”

Dr. Friedl earned her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine & Public Health. She completed her residency in the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics Department of Psychiatry.

In her free time, Dr. Friedl enjoys running, hiking, kayaking, reading and traveling.
