MMC-BD Opens Hospice & Respite at Hillside Manor

Marshfield Medical Center-Beaver Dam unveiled its new Hospice & Respite service at Hillside Manor Tuesday, Nov. 7.

The new dedicated space for hospice and respite care consists of four suites, created by renovating and remodeling eight previous patient rooms on the second floor of Hillside Manor’s Swan Unit. Each suite is designed with a patient area and an attached family room space that provides a supportive setting and enhances privacy and dignity.https://bdch.com/sites/bdch.com/assets/images/news/Hospice--Respite-room.jpg

“The spacious design of our new hospice and respite suites creates a comfortable, home-like environment for our patients and their friends and family,” said Angelia Foster, Marshfield Medical Center-Beaver Dam President. “As many of us know first-hand, the hospice journey can be mentally, emotionally and even physically trying for those accompanying a loved one through this difficult stage of life. To be able to provide comfort and peace during moments of pain and grief is a precious gift.”

The idea for a dedicated hospice space has been championed for many years, and momentum received a notable bump in the summer of 2012 when Dr. Victor Caceres made a $250,000 donation. Not everyone has an ideal location with which to receive hospice are, and sometimes families who are otherwise able to have hospice care provided at home are in need of respite. In each situation, the availability of a warm, inviting space for end-of-life care can be comforting.

“We’ve known there has been this need in the community for many years, and we’re incredibly proud to see Hospice & Respite at Hillside Manor become a reality today,” said Duane Foulkes, BDCH Foundation Board Member. “These suites offer the best of both worlds — all the comforts of home with the quality care and support of Hillside Hospice and Hillside Manor. We’re very excited to bring this to the community.”

The project was entirely funded by the BDCH Foundation thanks to generous donations from the community over the past 10+ years.

“The availability of our Hospice & Respite Suites is the fulfillment of a promise we made to Dodge County and beyond,” Foster said. “We’re thankful to the many people who worked with us over the years, from deciding what a dedicated hospice space would eventually look like, to organizing and executing fundraisers to generously donating their time and talent. This has been a true team effort.”
