BDCH Earns Fifth Consecutive 'A' Safety Rating from Leapfrog Group

Of 2,600 patients nationwide, only 112 hospitals have earned an ‘A’ each of the past five years.

BDCH is also the first and only Wisconsin hospital to have received The Leapfrog Group’s prestigious Top Rural Hospital Award, earning that distinction each of the last three years.

“Years ago we made an organizational commitment to not only compare ourselves to hospitals our size, but to the best hospitals in the country in order to maximize transparency and hold ourselves accountable for providing the safest and highest quality care,” said Kim Miller, FACHE, BDCH President and CEO. “Our patients, residents and families have entrusted us with their care, and it’s gratifying to know the hard work put in by our physicians, providers and staff ensures that care is available to everyone in our region.”

The ‘A’ grade is one of the most meaningful honors a hospital can achieve, and one of the most valuable indicators for patients looking for a safe place to receive care. Developed under the guidance of a Blue Ribbon National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

“It takes consistent, unwavering dedication to patients to achieve the highest standards of patient safety. An ‘A’ Safety Grade recognizes hospitals for this accomplishment,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the clinicians, Board, management and staff of Beaver Dam Community Hospital for showing the country what it means to put patient safety first.”
