“I really enjoy the softer side of medicine — getting to know patients, helping empower them, and witnessing their progression of health over time.”
Dan Shapiro, PA-C, practices family medicine and cares for a variety of acute and chronic health concerns for both pediatrics and adults. He is particularly interested in preventive health and nutrition, chronic pain, mental health, eating disorders, acne and other skin conditions, sports injuries and procedure-based visits.
“The human body has always fascinated me, and I have a passion for working with others,” Shapiro said. “Medicine allows me to combine these two passions in an environment that is always changing and evolving. I love getting to know patients and their families and being able to witness their lives evolve as their health improves.”
Shapiro grew up in Fond du Lac, Wis., and appreciates Marshfield Clinic Health System’s patient-centered approach to rural health care. He believes his personal experience with the health care system has developed an empathy and compassion that is beneficial to each patient he cares for.
“The patient is always the most important piece of the puzzle,” Shapiro said. “Physical health, mental health, and socio-economic factors all intertwine, and treating one of these areas without considering the impacts on the others rarely leads to sustainable results. It’s a really special thing to be able to give back to your community, and my goal is to create a welcoming space to share any information patients are comfortable with.”
Shapiro earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh before earning his Master of Medical Sciences at Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Ill. He is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
In his spare time, Shapiro enjoys teaching fitness classes, hiking, and spending time with his wife, son and two dogs. He also plays a variety of musical instruments.
