Kim Miller, President and CEO, Presents at Vizient Conference

Kim Miller, FACHE, Beaver Dam Community Hospitals, Inc. (BDCH) President and CEO, was a feature presenter at the Vizient Fall Connections Summit, held Oct. 2-3 at The Wynn in Las Vegas.

Miller, the current Chair of Vizient’s Upper Midwest Board of Directors, discussed the benefits individual health care organizations, large and small alike, can realize as a part of Vizient’s trusted community of like-minded health care professionals.

“Having the opportunity to openly discuss shared challenges with physicians, executives and clinical staff is invaluable as we all work to provide the safest, highest quality care possible to those who entrust us with their wellbeing,” Miller said. “An organization searching for ways to improve a specific process is able to learn from those who have already implemented successful measures.”https://bdch.com/sites/bdch.com/assets/images/news/Miller-Kim-2018-cropped.jpg

Miller also talked about BDCH’s move from the Triple Aim (enhancing patient experience, delivering a high quality safe experience, improving population health and reducing costs) to the Quadruple Aim by placing additional focus on caring for our caregivers.  Preventing burnout in health care is critical, and BDCH has implemented Vizient’s national “Joy of Work” initiative. Introducing “Zen Dens,” quiet spaces where staff can go when they need to decompress, and training employees to recognize when colleagues are in need of support and how to care for them are just a few ways BDCH has committed to caring for the caregiver.

“At the end of the day, we have to support team members who provide care to those we serve,” Miller said. “Our patients are at the center of every decision we make, but we also have to support the caregivers taking care of the people in communities we serve. This is a benefit to all.”

Vizient, Inc., the largest member-driven health care performance improvement company in the country, provides innovative data-driven solutions, expertise and collaborative opportunities that lead to improved patient outcomes and lower costs. The Vizient Upper Midwest Board consists of 19 members from 10 states: Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan, Montana, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Pennsylvania and Florida. The board strives to improve the 35 health care organizations in the Upper Midwest Network more quickly through a commitment to act, learn and share together.

Miller will also be a featured presenter at Becker’s Hospital Review 7th Annual CEO + CFO Roundtable in Chicago from Nov. 12-14.
