Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is one of several advanced treatment modalities offered by our Advanced Wound Center. This treatment method promotes new blood vessel growth, is toxic to many types of bacteria and increases the effectiveness of antibiotics.
Hyperbaric therapy is a daily treatment in which a patient within a hyperbaric chamber breathes 100% oxygen under pressure, causing the oxygen to diffuse into the blood plasma. This oxygen-rich plasma is able to travel past the restriction, diffusing up to three times further into the tissue. The pressurized environment helps reduce swelling and discomfort, while providing the body with at least 10 times its normal supply of oxygen to help repair tissue damaged by original occlusion or subsequent hypoxic condition.
Our multi-disciplinary wound care team utilizes hyperbaric oxygen therapy to treat a variety of chronic wounds, including:
“I was completely amazed at the results. After the pain, uncertainty and frustration of the previous surgeries, I was healed by people in my own community, close to home, using non-invasive treatments. It’s awesome. That’s all I can say.”— Angie Heiling about the Hyberbaric Oxygen Therapy at Marshfield Medical Center-Beaver Dam
“Jamie and Dr. Lee are both incredibly knowledgeable and always have smiles on their faces. I can’t say enough about the staff.”
— Advanced Wound Center patient Jim Pauls
