Marshfield Medical Center-Beaver Dam is hosting a new six-week Prediabetes program called “Taking a Positive Step for Preventing Diabetes” which begins Wednesday, April 1 at 6 p.m. in Learning Center A & B on the hospital's third floor. The program has been developed for those diagnosed with prediabetes and meets each Wednesday at 6 p.m. through May 6.
Prediabetes is an emerging health concern in the United States and afflicts approximately 84 million adults, or nearly one in three Americans. Worse, it’s estimated that 90 percent of cases are undiagnosed. Those with prediabetes are at risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes and are at a higher risk of heart disease and stroke. Fortunately, studies have shown that lifestyle changes can significantly prevent or delay Type 2 Diabetes and other associated complications.
A new topic will be discussed during each of the six one-hour sessions. Topics include meal planning strategies, grocery shopping and label reading guidelines, activity and heart healthy eating tips, coping with stress, strategies for eating out, developing support systems and staying motivated.
The cost of the program is $30. To register, call 920-887-6631.
