Volunteer Opportunities
BDCH VOLUNTEER AREAS
Information Desk, Main Lobby – Volunteers provide hospital and community information to visitors, patients, and vendors; escort patients to the various departments in the hospital; deliver mail, daily newspaper, and flowers. This position is currently staffed from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Family Waiting Area, second floor – Greet and welcome patients, families, and visitors coming to the service areas on this floor, which include the Surgery Center and GI Clinic, Medical Imaging, Out-Patient Services, and Ocology. Guide and escort patients and customers to Urgent Care, HealthWORKS, Medical Records, and the Emergency Department. Provide hospitality by offering fresh coffee, juices, and snacks set out in the area’s nutrition center. Volunteers assist with some clerical duties as well as other tasks that use their time while here. Volunteers are here from 6:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Commons Area, third floor – Greet and welcome visitors to the Medical/Surgical floor. Escorting visitors to patients’ rooms on occasion is also part of the hospitality shown by our volunteers. In this position, volunteers also perform clerical tasks, and make coffee, and set out snacks.
Clerical Support – There is always a need for some extra help with filing, photocopying projects, collating papers, and more. Hours are flexible. Accuracy, attention to detail, and maintaining confidentiality are a must. Areas: BDCH Resource Library and Human Resources are currently looking for qualified volunteers.
Partners of BDCH Gift Shop – Volunteers wait on customers, operate the cash register, stock merchandise and help with other retail-related jobs. The Gift Shop is currently open Monday-Thursday, 8:45 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., Fridays 8:45 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Saturdays 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The shop is closed on Sundays.
Receptionist for BDCH Foot Clinic – Volunteers welcome patients to the Foot Clinic, make appointments, take payments, send out appointment reminders, answer the telephone, and assist with other office duties. Volunteers here use a computer as part of the job. The Foot Clinic is held on Wednesdays from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Activity Department of Hillside Manor.
Kids Care Day Care Center, Rocking Babies! - Could there be a better volunteer assignment for those who love to cuddle and care for infants and young toddlers? Volunteers help out during the busiest times of the day – 7:00-9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and 3:00-5:00 p.m.
Activity Volunteers at Hillside Manor, Eagle’s Wings, and Remembrance Home – These volunteers play games such as Bingo and simple card games, assist with baking, arts and crafts, visiting, reading, and so much more. Volunteers who need flexibility with just a touch of structure will enjoy volunteering here.
Reception and Clerical Assistance for annual Flu Clinics – Every fall, BDCH offers a series of flu vaccination clinics in the Beaver Dam area. Volunteers assist with paperwork, handling money, and helping the clinics run smoothly. A great spot to “test” being a volunteer!
Beauty Shop, Hillside Manor– Tuesday mornings, 9:00 – 11:30 a.m. Volunteers help treat our female residents to a hair wash (done by Manor staff) and set! Residents are pampered with having their hair set and combed out just the way they like it. Staff and volunteers work together to make this activity a success.
Hillside Manor evening activities – Thursday and Friday evenings, 6:30 until 8:00 p.m., residents enjoy games of bowling and bingo. Volunteers assist residents as needed, and most will find they enjoy the activity as much as the residents.
Hillside Manor monthly Hymn Sing – On the 2nd Monday of every month the Manor residents enjoy a wonderful hour of singing their favorite hymns. If you love to sing and volunteer this is the spot for you. Besides singing along with the residents, volunteers help get residents to and from the dining room area where the Hymn Sing is held.
Catholic Mass and Protestant Worship Services at Hillside Manor – Volunteers assist residents to and from weekly mass and chapel services. Currently services are held on the following days and times:
§ Catholic Mass – Friday mornings at 10:00 a.m..
§ Protestant Worship Services - Tuesday afternoons 2:00 p.m.
§ St. Stephen’s Chapel Service – Wednesday afternoons, 1:45 p.m.
Pianists, Hillside Manor Worship Services – Volunteers assist clergy with the Tuesday afternoon Protestant worship services by providing the piano music for singing hymns. You’ll provide the joy of music as well as an opportunity for the residents to sing and hear the songs they know and love.
Pianists, main hospital lobby – Volunteers with the ability to play piano are invited to provide music in our lobby area using our wonderful grand piano! Music has been shown to ease anxiety and decrease stress. It’s good medicine!
Mail Delivery – Daily, Monday-Friday - Volunteers sort and distribute mail to the residents of Hillside Manor. This volunteer job takes about an hour and is a great spot for those who would like to volunteer and yet don’t have a great deal of time to do so.
Telephone call appointment reminders for the Rehab/Physical Therapy department – Each day telephone call reminders need to be made to those who have an appointment the next day at our Rehab or Physical Therapy department. We have a need for volunteers to make calls on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Calls are usually made in early afternoon from the Rehab Department in Hillside Manor.
Episodic Volunteers – We have volunteers who help on an “as needed” basis with hospital functions such as the annual fall flu clinics, Kindergarten Tours in the spring, summer band concert escorts, Christmas events, and other times as needed and available to assist with large projects.

Hospice - Assignments are available weekdays, evenings, and weekends. Most likely there is a volunteer position that’s ideal for you – your interests, your skills, and your schedule. We’ll be happy to work with you to find the perfect spot!
