Continuous Glucose Monitoring System (CGMS)

Are you unhappy with your control of your diabetes? Are you having frequent episodes of unexplained low or high blood pressure?

If so, wearing a continuous monitor may reveal trends and provide you with new insights to fine tune your therapy and improve your blood sugar control.

Continuous glucose monitoring can help you:
   * Reveal low and high glucose trends not tracked by fingersticks alone
   * Learn how your daily activities affect your glucose trends
   * Reduce your A1C level, and bring it closer to the ADA target of 7% or less
   * Lower your long-term risks of eye, kidney, nerve and heart disease
   * Enjoy your life with fewer highs and lows and more peace of mind

CGMS devices are attached to a tiny sensor which is easily inserted under your skin in a painless process. Glucose measurements are automatically collected by the sensor and stored in a discreet monitor you wear like a pager for 3 days. Glucose is measured every 5 minutes, while you sleep, work and eat.

While you wear the sensor, you must continue to check your blood glucose with your home glucometer a minimum of 4 times a day and record events that may affect your readings, such as exercise, food and medications.

After three days, your testing is complete. You and you physician will receive a personalized report that helps you both fine-tune your therapy.

Please talk with your doctor about the benefits of continuous glucose monitoring, or call the Diabetes Educators with questions at (920) 887-6631.
