How To Find A Doctor

It’s important to choose a main doctor, a family practitioner or an internist, to be your primary care provider. Finding the right doctor for you may seem confusing but shouldn't be difficult. You should select one main (primary care) doctor who will get to know you, your medical history, and any medical problems you are currently experiencing. Your primary care provider will refer you to physician specialists when you need one.

There are two types of primary care doctors, Family Practice Doctors (Family Practitioners) who provide care to people of all ages, and Internal Medicine Doctors (Internists) who care for adults only.

It's important to know if your health insurance requires you to go to certain doctors. Call your insurance company to determine their list of preferred doctors because going to those doctors will assure you the best payment of your medical bills.

Once you have the preferred doctor information from your insurance company, you can call one of those doctors to make an appointment. If that doctor is not accepting new patients, their office can direct you to another appropriate doctor.
